US Consulate General to organize a “Taste of America” festival in Agartala on Apr 24

The U.S. Consulate General, Kolkata is organizing a “Taste of America” festival in Agartala on Tuesday, April 24 at Nazrul Kalakshetra from 9:00 A.M. to 8:30 P.M. The first of its kind in the city, this event will showcase different facets of the United States including American music, history, film, art and culture. The “Taste of America” fest will also highlight services offered by the U.S. Consulate General, Kolkata for the citizens of Agartala and Tripura.

Nazrul Kalakshetra will serve as the central hub for the festival with easy access for all denizens of Agartala. The day-long extravaganza will include a Spelling Bee competition for school students, a Knowledge USA quiz competition, debates, collage, a musical performance and a film show. There will also be seminars and counseling on higher education facilities in the U.S. and advice on formalities for submitting visa applications. The American Library will present an array of print materials and conduct training sessions on the availability and use of the Library's resources. The people of Agartala will have the opportunity to directly interact with the American Center Director Jeffrey K. Reneau, who is traveling to Tripura for the first time for the festival. The event will conclude with the screening of Mira Nair’s film, The Namesake, which is based on the novel of the same name by Jhumpa Lahiri. The program schedule is provided below.

9:00 – 9:30 am Registration of participating school students (classes IX – XII)
9:30 – 10:00 Spelling Bee: Written round
10:00 – 10:30 Presentation on undergraduate studies in the United States
10:30 – 11:00 Information session on U.S. Visas
11:00 – 12:30 pm Spelling Bee: Final round

For college and university students:

1:30 – 2:00 pm Presentation on graduate studies in the United States
2:00 – 2:30 pm Information session on U.S. visas
2:30 – 4:00 pm Cultural activities
4.00 - 5.00 pm Interactive session with the American Center Director

Open to general public:

5:30 – 6:30 pm Cultural performance
6:30 – 8:30 pm Film screening: The Namesake
